Lambda Archives of San Diego (LASD) holds a wealth of historical and contemporary images documenting the LGBTQ+ community in San Diego. Funded by a California State Library grant, LASD will be able to provide online access to these images through our digitization project, “Preserving California’s LGBTQ+ History.” To meet the goals of this project, LASD is currently seeking a STUDENT ASSISTANT to join the team on a part-time basis. Position Description
Lambda Archives of San Diego (LASD) is seeking a part-time Student Assistant reporting to the Project Manager an 8-month position. This position will assist in the digitization of the photography collection. The ideal candidate will work on assisting the Project Manager while they develop online access for Lambda Archives’ images. Specifically, this Student Assistant will help with a project that would allow Lambda Archives to thoroughly assess all of the image collections, ensure that all images have been digitized, quality control checked and standardized metadata created across all collections. This position is made possible through the California State Library’s grant funded project “Preserving California’s LGBTQ+ History.”

Project Specifics
● Assess the over-sized materials
● Ensure all materials are described properly in excel spreadsheet
● Preserve the collection by: removing frames and adhesives; flattening and smoothing; foldering materials and refiling; determining which items will go to the vendor, see size limitations; photographing those items that will not be scanned
● Will work with Google Sheets and/or Microsoft Excel
● Will help select and move materials to a vendor for digitization
● Will check scans and photographs for quality and perform editing as needed
● Review existing digitized images: edit and curate images; perform light editing as needed
● Digitize collections under the direction of the Project Manager
● Quality control check newly digitized images
● Work with SDSU’s Digital Collections team to review, enhance or correct existing metadata
● Create new metadata for undescribed and newly digitized images
● Will work with Google Sheets and Islandora software
● Re-house materials
● Assist with the development of finding aids
● Conduct research as needed
